Kate Jones was elected to the Queensland Parliament in September 2006.
At 29 Kate is the youngest member in the Bligh Cabinet having been appointed Minister for Climate Change and Sustainability.
Kate is currently the Deputy Government Whip and serves on the Scrutiny of Legislation Parliamentary Committee and is a member of several Ministerial Policy Committees.
Kate grew up in Ashgrove attending Kelvin Grove High School and worked at The Gap Family Markets while completing a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Politics at Queensland University of Technology.
Before running for State Parliament, Kate was a Senior Media Advisor to the Queensland Minister for Public Works, Housing and Racing, Robert Schwarten. She previously worked as a Media Advisor to the Queensland Treasurer, David Hamill.
Kate is a member of a number of local community groups, including the Ashgrove Historical Society, The Gap Community Association, Ashgrove Meals on Wheels, Enoggera Respite Centre Management Committee and environmental group Save Our Waterways Now. She is also Patron of The Gap Little Athletics and the Ashgrove Rangers.
Kate firmly believes in education for all and has a strong interest in environmental policy.
Kate is also a member of Amnesty International and The Fred Hollows Foundation and supports World Vision.
